Fire
Cupping.

Traditional glass cup therapy creates deep suction to release muscle tension, break fascial adhesions, boost circulation, and accelerate the body’s natural healing response.

What It Is

Ancient technique,
modern results.

Fire cupping is a time-tested therapeutic technique rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine. A flame is briefly introduced into a glass cup to create a vacuum, then the cup is placed on the skin. As the air inside cools, it creates a strong suction that draws blood flow into stagnant, tight, or injured tissue beneath.

This controlled negative pressure lifts the fascia, separates adhesions between tissue layers, increases local circulation, and triggers an anti-inflammatory response. The result is deep muscle relaxation, pain relief, and accelerated recovery that manual pressure alone often cannot achieve. At Move to Motion, fire cupping is performed by our registered acupuncturist as a standalone treatment or alongside acupuncture and physiotherapy.

When It’s Used

Conditions that respond to
this treatment.

Chronic Back & Neck Tension

Deep paraspinal and trapezius tightness that returns despite massage. Cupping lifts and releases fascial restrictions from a different angle.

Myofascial Pain Syndrome

Trigger points and fascial adhesions that create widespread referred pain patterns. Cupping separates stuck tissue layers.

Sports Recovery

Post-training muscle soreness and stiffness. Cupping increases blood flow to flush metabolic waste and deliver nutrients for faster recovery.

Respiratory Conditions

Back cupping helps open the chest, stimulate lung meridians, and relieve congestion associated with colds, asthma, and bronchitis (TCM approach).

Stress & Tension Headaches

Releasing chronic upper back and neck tension that drives tension-type headaches and cervicogenic pain patterns.

Scar Tissue & Adhesions

Post-surgical or post-injury scar tissue that restricts movement. Cupping helps mobilize and remodel fibrotic tissue.

What To Expect

Your cupping
session.

Your acupuncturist will assess the areas of tension and determine cup placement. A small flame is used to create suction inside the glass cup, which is then placed on the skin. You’ll feel a strong pulling sensation that most patients describe as intense but relieving. Cups are typically left in place for 5–15 minutes.

Circular marks (not bruises) commonly appear after treatment and fade within 3–10 days — their colour can actually indicate the degree of stagnation in the underlying tissue. Sessions are often combined with acupuncture for a comprehensive treatment. Most patients experience immediate relief in muscle tension and improved range of motion.
